Eating vegetables and fruits gives your brain the energy it needs to do well in school. Your muscles get energy to keep you strong so you can move your body every day.

Vegetables and fruits are amazing! Your body uses the energy it gets from vegetables and fruits to keep your whole body healthy. Eating vegetables and fruits helps your skin heal from a scrape, makes your teeth strong enough to chomp your favorite foods, and keeps your tummy feeling good.

Yes! All plants grow better during different seasons. Cucumbers, peppers, and melons like the warm summer months. Brussel sprouts and leafy greens like lettuce and spinach can grow when it’s cold outside. Plants like fruit trees grow year-round, but the fruit is ready during certain times of the year. Apricots and peaches are harvested in the summer, while apples aren’t ready to eat until the fall.

There are different climates in Arizona, so all kinds of vegetables and fruits can be grown in our state. Some plants like the desert, while others grow better in the mountains. Some of the vegetables and fruits grown in Arizona are lettuce, cantaloupe, broccoli, spinach, cauliflower, watermelon, and lemons.

All colors are healthy! Eat a variety of colorful vegetables and fruits – red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, white, and brown-- to get the nutrients your body needs to stay healthy.

    Fruits: apples, cranberries, pink/red grapefruit, strawberries, watermelon
    Vegetables: beets, red peppers, radishes, tomatoes
  • Orange/Yellow:
    Fruits: oranges, tangerines, apricots, lemons
    Vegetables: butternut squash, carrots, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, yellow peppers, sweet corn
  • Green:
    Fruits: avocados, limes, green apples
    Vegetables: asparagus, broccoli, celery, leafy greens, Brussels sprouts, peas, spinach, zucchini, green onions
  • Blue/Purple:
    Fruits: blueberries, plums, grapes, raisins
    Vegetables: eggplant, purple cabbage
  • White or Brown/Tan:
    Fruits: bananas, dates, brown pears
    Vegetables: cauliflower, garlic, turnips, onions, mushrooms, parsnips
